There are five basic items of waste in the dental office; fixer, developer, medically contaminated waste/sharps, amalgam contaminated/hazardous waste and lead foil.

There is a sixth item, which, via good management practices, can be eliminated; cold sterilizer solutions containing aldehydes and phenols.

As dentists, we are responsible for all waste created "from cradle to grave". We can be held responsible for any damages, clean-up costs and worse; violations and penalties - always use a licensed and insured Waste Management Company!
